Where did DeBoer coach before Alabama?
Before taking the helm at the University of Alabama, Bill DeBoer had an impressive coaching career that spanned several years and various levels of competition. His journey began in the world of college basketball, where he honed his skills and gained valuable experience that would eventually lead him to the prestigious Alabama program.
DeBoer’s first coaching position was at the University of Northern Iowa, where he served as an assistant coach from 1994 to 1996. During his tenure, he worked under head coach Ed Cooley, who would later become the head coach at Providence College. At Northern Iowa, DeBoer was instrumental in the development of the team’s defense and player recruitment, which would serve as a foundation for his future coaching success.
After his time at Northern Iowa, DeBoer moved on to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he served as an assistant coach from 1996 to 2000. Following his successful run at Akron, DeBoer was hired as an assistant coach at the University of Tennessee from 2006 to 2011. During his time in Knoxville, he worked under head coach Bruce Pearl and contributed to the Volunteers’ success, including a run to the Elite Eight in the 2007-2008 season.
In 2011, DeBoer took on a new challenge when he was appointed as the head coach at the University of Alabama.
