How to Activate Compatibility Mode in Internet Explorer
Are you encountering issues while browsing certain websites on Internet Explorer? If so, you might want to try activating the compatibility mode. Compatibility mode allows Internet Explorer to display websites designed for older versions of the browser. This feature can be particularly useful if you’re having trouble with a website that doesn’t work correctly on the latest version of Internet Explorer. In this article, we’ll guide you through the steps to activate compatibility mode in Internet Explorer.
Step 1: Open Internet Explorer
First, launch Internet Explorer on your computer. You can do this by clicking on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop or searching for it in the Start menu.
Step 2: Access the Compatibility View Settings
Once Internet Explorer is open, navigate to the website that is causing issues. If you haven’t already, type the website’s URL in the address bar and press Enter.
Step 3: Enable Compatibility View
After the website has loaded, click on the Tools button (represented by a gear icon) located in the upper-right corner of the browser window. From the dropdown menu, select “Compatibility View settings.”
Step 4: Add the Website to Compatibility View
In the Compatibility View settings window, you will see a list of websites that are already set to use compatibility mode. To add the current website to this list, click on the “Add” button.
Step 5: Confirm the Addition
A dialog box will appear, asking you to confirm the addition of the website to the compatibility view list. Click “Add” to proceed.
Step 6: Verify the Change
Once the website has been added to the compatibility view list, refresh the page by pressing the F5 key or clicking on the refresh button in the browser. You should now see that the website is displaying correctly in compatibility mode.
Step 7: Disable Compatibility View (Optional)
If you find that the website works well in compatibility mode and want to disable it, simply repeat steps 2 to 5. This time, when the dialog box appears, click “Remove” instead of “Add.”
By following these steps, you can easily activate compatibility mode in Internet Explorer and ensure that websites designed for older versions of the browser display correctly. This feature can be a lifesaver when dealing with compatibility issues, so make sure to keep it in mind for future troubleshooting.
